Yahya Jusoh semakin pulih

KUALA TERENGGANU - Bekas pemain bola sepak kebangsaan, Yahya Jusoh yang terlantar lumpuh sejak akhir tahun lalu, kini sudah semakin pulih.
 
Seangkatan dengan Datuk Soh Chin Aun dan Allahyarham Mokhtar Dahari, Yahya, 58, mula diserang penyakit lumpuh berikutan sakit tulang leher yang dialami pada November tahun lalu.

Dia yang menyarung jersi pasukan kebangsaan dari 1975 hingga 1981 berkata, keadaan kesihatannya semakin pulih selepas menjalani pembedahan di sebuah hospital di Kuala Lumpur.

"Saya sudah pulih 80 peratus dan berharap dapat kembali berjalan seperti biasa," katanya ketika ditemui selepas dikunjungi Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said di rumahnya di Permin Jaya di sini, semalam.
Penderitaan tonggak pertahanan Terengganu pada era 1970-an dan 1980-an itu mendapat perhatian pelbagai pihak termasuk Yayasan Kebajikan Atlet (Yakeb) yang telah membiayai keseluruhan kos pembedahannya.
Yahya yang mula berkecimpung dalam arena bola sepak pada 1970 sebelum mewakili pasukan Terengganu bermula dari 1972 berkata, dia kini perlu menjalani rawatan susulan di Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah di sini bagi memastikan tahap kecergasannya semakin baik.

"Saya perlu melakukan rawatan fisioterapi sekali dalam seminggu selain rawatan ortopedik yang dilakukan sekali dalam tempoh dua minggu," jelasnya.

Dalam pada itu, Ahmad berkata, kerajaan negeri akan sentiasa memantau perkembangan kesihatan Yahya yang telah membantu mengharumkan nama Terengganu dalam sukan bola sepak.

Menurut beliau, pihaknya juga akan memastikan bekas pemain bola sepak itu mendapat rawatan terbaik.
"Kita sentiasa memberi perhatian kepada beliau yang merupakan bekas pemain negeri dan kebangsaan," ujarnya.

Obituary: Sabah great dies

SABAH’S most illustrious track and field athlete Datuk Gabuh Piging died in Tambunan on Tuesday evening. He was 78.

At the height of his career, Gabuh competed in the long jump and triple jump in the Olympics as well as the British Empire and Commonwealth Games between 1956 and 1962.

Gabuh also had the distinction of holding the national triple jump record of 15.16m for 25 years between 1962 and 1987 before it was bettered by another Sabahan, Sidek Sahak.
The former drum major with the police force succumbed to a series of illness and old age, according to friends who visited the family at their home yesterday.

Sabah Amateur Athletics Association president Paiman Abdul Karim said Gabuh had been an inspirational figure to many athletes from the 1960s.

Former sprinter Surahmat Sunarno echoed similar sentiments about Gabuh, who was known for his determined and commanding character both on and off the track
