Zaiton, who is currently attached to the National Sports Council, made the heptathlon event her domain in the Sea Games by winning the gold medal in 1981, 1983 and 1989.
Although she retired from the international scene after her triumph at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games in 1989, Zaiton continued to be active in the veteran's category.
She competed in the 1996 Asian Veterans Championships in Seoul where she won the gold medal in the 4x100m and javelin and silver medal in the long jump.
