Cycling: Rosman set to return as coach

ROSMAN Alwi is not in a fix after all as his services as a coach are required by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF).
The former national track sprints coach will be called for a meeting with the federation's track committee soon with an eye on putting him in charge of a centre of excellence to be started at the Kuala Lumpur Velodrome.

MNCF track committee chairman Datuk Naim Mohamad said Rosman's plight over whether his services as a coach were still required was more due to a lack of communication.

"Of course we want him. The problem is, when he left before, it was communicated that he wanted to concentrate on duties with his employers, so we took it at face value and respected his decision," said Naim on Tuesday.

"In our books, Rosman will be a valuable asset to the programme. He's been proven as one of the best riders we've ever had and he's also proved himself as a coach, so the doors are open to him."
Rosman, 47, had on Monday raised concern over his future in cycling as he is currently undergoing a sports science and sports management course under the auspices of the National Sports Institute (NSI).

But until Tuesday, there was no certainty as to whether Rosman would be required to assume any coaching duties in any part of cycling, with him stating he was under pressure to provide confirmation to his employers as to whether he would be required to serve cycling or return to focus on work.

Rosman has also stated his interest in working with junior riders, something which the MNCF track committee has lined up for him.

"We need to start the new centre of excellence at the KL Velodrome soon and I believe Rosman will be the ideal person to be put in charge of it," said Naim. "We will be inviting him for discussions soon and it is all up to Rosman actually. If he wants to be involved, he is more than welcome."

Rosman's last coaching stint was with the Kedah team which ended two years ago.
